Two Year Olds
As expected, our two year old classroom is very busy!! Children at this age have an "I can do it myself" attitude and we have set up an environment to allows for that independence. Children are encouraged to try for themselves and teachers are there to step in when the child asks for help or becomes discouraged. Lots of time is dedicated to potty training in our two year old classroom. Communication between teachers and parents is an important part of the potty training process, so daily sheets are sent home to help you keep track of how your child is doing at school.
Our two year old classroom is set up with learning centers, which include science, art, manipulatives, dramatic play and blocks. Children spend much of the day in free play, exploring the environment the teachers have created. During this play, teachers are there to guide them, talk with them, and help them create experiences that will help them learn.
Children are exposed to concepts such as colors, shapes and counting. Exciting games and interactions with teachers allow children to be introduced to these concepts in fun and memorable ways. They squeel with delight as they feed the dog different colors of dog bones and cheer on their friends when they succeed in a shape hunt. The children are building knowledge while having fun, and that is the goal of early childhood education!!
